French toast, the recipe to keep

French toast are my favorite weekend breakfast. Back at home, my mom was making them forever now. We manly were making them for breakfast but sometimes in tea time too. In France they make french toast with baguettes especially when the baguette becomes soft and lose it crunchiness. So it’s a kind of recycling of the bread, which is a good idea! So keep in mind that when your bread start to stay for a long time in your fridge, make with it a French toast. Because here what it is, you deep the bread in milk and eggs so you try to soften this bread, why using a fresh bread though?! As I mentioned before, i had French toast with all kind of breads and mixtures, but this recipe i prefer the most why? Simply, because in this recipe we use a batter not only a milk and eggs mixture. In the batter i use more eggs then other recipes, milk and flour, also, i use a very small amount of butter for cooking. As a result you get a toast with a very good consistency, flavory and not oily at all.

Yields: 1 loaf Prep time: 5 minutes Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

1 bread loaf

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup flour

4 tbsp sugar

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Dash of salt

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Suggestion for toppings: Powdered sugar, syrup, berries, jam, honey, chocolate syrup, sweetened cream cheese, caramel, bananas...

How to make it:

In a shallow bow, crack the eggs, add milk, flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt vanilla and whisk promptly until obtaining a smooth batter free from lumps. Heat a nonstick pan, soak the toast from both sides in to the batter and quickly melt a small amount of butter in the pan and start toasting them for 2 minutes each side. Serve warm with your favorite topping.
