Stay warm and cozy this winter with hot chocolate always close at hand. This homemade cinnamon hot cocoa mix comes together in just minutes and uses only 5 ingredients. This mix makes a perfect gift for teachers, neighbors, and friends!

Begin by gathering all ingredients together. It's much easier if it's all within reach before you start. Here's what you'll need:

  • 1 cup sugar (we use turbinado)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 heaping cup unsweetened  cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon  cinnamon

In a medium sized mixing bowl combine both sugars and whisk together. Add in cocoa, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk until incorporated.

Using a canning funnel, fill a clean glass jar with homemade cinnamon hot cocoa mix. Be sure jar is completely dry before filling.

Now, you're ready to give as a gift, or to make hot cocoa for yourself whenever the mood strikes.

To make homemade cinnamon hot cocoa, heat 8-12 ounces of milk in a microwave safe dish (or heat on stove top).

While milk is warming, add 1-2 Tablespoons of cinnamon hot cocoa mix to a large mug. Once milk is heated, slowly pour into the mug, stirring to incorporate.

Top your hot cocoa with marshmallows and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup (heaping) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
Instructions

In a medium sized mixing bowl combine both sugars and whisk together. Add in cocoa, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk until incorporated.
Place mix in sealable container (glass mason jars work well) and store until ready to use.
To use, warm milk in a mug in the microwave or in a small pot on the stovetop. Use 1-2 tablespoons of mix for every 8oz cup of milk. (This depends on your sweet tooth.) I also add in a splash of vanilla extract after I've added the mix. But that's optional. Top with marshmallows if desired and enjoy!
Tips
  • Use your favorite type of milk for making the hot cocoa.
  • For a sugar-free option, consider using swerve granulated and swerve brown in place of the sugars.

Delicious and easy alternative to store bought. Super chocolatey and I like the hint of cinnamon. My kids and I love it.
