Peaches and Cream Sweet Rolls

It’s time to shake up your cinnamon roll with these Peaches and Cream Sweet Rolls! It’s funny how these rolls evolved while I tested out the recipe this week. I tried three different variations for fillings, but finally settled on one that included brown sugar, simmered down to give it a caramel-like flavor, mixed with a bright pop of peach chunks. All encased in a fluffy, sweet, dough, topped with cream cheese frosting. YUM!

These sweet rolls make a dozen large rolls, but you could also make 2 dozen smaller ones - It's up to you. Happy baking!

  • Prep time: 2.5 Hours Cook time: 20 Minutes Total time: 2 hr 50 min

Ingredients

The Dough

  • 2 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Active Yeast
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Vegetable or Canola Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Maple Extract
  • 6-7 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1/2 tbsp Salt

Peach Filling

  • 2 lbs diced, peeled peaches (frozen is fine)
  • 3 cups Brown Sugar
  • 2/3 cup water

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 2 1/2 cups warm water, 1/3 cup of oil, 1 1/2 tbsp of yeast, and 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tsp of maple extract Once those are combined, add 1/2 tbsp of salt, then the flour, one cup at a time, until dough is no longer sticky.
Turn onto a lightly floured countertop and knead for a couple minutes. Return to bowl, cover with greased plastic wrap, and allow to double in size in a warm environment.
While it rises, make your filling. Chop your 2 lbs of peeled peaches. If using frozen, just make sure to thaw first. To cut down on time, you can throw them in the blender for just a few seconds. Careful not to turn it intro a purée!
On medium heat, pour your chopped peaches, 3 cups of brown sugar, and 2/3 cup of water into a saucepan. Stir constantly until reduced down and thick, almost like a caramel sauce. This should take between 12-15 minutes.
When the dough is doubled, punch it down and roll it out onto a lightly floured countertop, and then into a large rectangle.
Spread the peach filling onto the dough, then roll it up tightly from the long side. Place in a greased jelly roll pan or two 9x13 pans.
Let it rise and double a second time in a warm environment, covered. When it's done, preheat your oven to 375 degrees and bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown on top.
While it bakes, make your cream cheese frosting by combining 8oz of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup of softened butter. Then add in and combine 2 tsp of vanilla and 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar. Spread the frosting over the warm rolls, enjoy!
