Tequila Sunrise Cocktail

A classic cocktail that looks as good as it tastes. This layered drink gets it's name from the blend of red and orange that mix together like a beautiful sunrise.

Layering a drink takes a little practice, and this is a great recipe to start with. Once you learn the basics of layering 2 liquids you can move to 3 or more and create stunning cocktails!

This drink is sweet and full of citrus taste. It works as a summer drink but can be enjoyed year round. To get the best flavor choose a high quality silver tequila and orange juice. You can even squeeze your own fresh juice, but store bought will do just fine.

The key to a layered cocktail is to know the density of the liquids going into it. In this recipe grenadine is more dense than orange juice so it sinks to the bottom. To create a sharp line between the layers you would add grenadine first, then ice, the the orange juice and tequila mixture. But since we are going for a blended sunrise look follow the directions below.

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces orange juice
  • 1.5 ounces silver tequila
  • .5 ounce grenadine
Instructions

Fill a glass with ice and add tequila and orange juice. Stir to mix.
Pour the grenadine over the top, and do not mix. Because of it's density it will slowly sink to the bottom creating a beautiful effect.
