In this recipe I’m going to share with you my go-to homemade pizza dough recipe. This dough is so versatile, not only does it make incredible pizza it’s also fantastic for making calzones, Panzerotti, pizza pockets and of course these delicious garlic knots!

These tasty little rolls make the perfect addition to almost any meal. They come together quickly and can be served fresh out of the oven with some butter or my personal favorite dipped in some marinara sauce.

This recipe is also fun for kids to help out with. I love cooking with my children, and they have the best time rolling out the dough and tying it into little knots.

If you are making these tasty little bites before dinner, make sure to hide them because there is a great chance that some may mysteriously disappear!

The first step to making these delicious garlic knots is to activate the yeast.

I use to be very intimidated by this process, but now I actually find it very fascinating.

The best way that I have found to do this is by putting the yeast directly into my mixing bowl then adding the water and sugar. To get good results you need the water to be warm slightly on the hotter side (around 100-115 degrees F).

The yeast will be ready when you see a nice bubbly layer of froth on the top of the water.

Next add in the flour, salt and olive oil and mix. I typically use my mixer with the dough hook attachment and let it knead on medium low speed for 5 minutes or until the dough has formed a nice ball.

Remove the dough ball from the bowl and lightly oil the bowl. Place the dough back in the bowl and tightly cover with Saran Wrap. Place the dough in a warm spot and let it rise for 40-60 minutes or until it has doubled in size.

When the dough has doubled in size punch it down and remove it from the bowl. Cut the dough into 18 equal pieces.

This is where the kids can help out. Roll out each dough piece into an 11” long piece. Tie the dough in a simple knot and tuck under the ends.

Place the dough knots on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet 2” apart. Loosely cover the dough and let rise an additional 30 minutes. This is a good time to preheat the oven.

Add the garlic and herbs to melted butter and brush on to each knot.

Place the tray in a preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.

These tasty little bites are sure to be a hit with everyone at the table! Serve with your favorite marinara sauce and Enjoy!

Yummy!

Does this recipe call for instant yeast, and all purpose or self rising flour? Thank you, these look fabulous.
